Talking to ANI, Ashanya stated, "I would like to thank PM Modi for taking revenge on behalf of my husband's death. My whole family had faith in him, and the manner in which he responded (to Pakistan), he has kept our faith alive. This is the true tribute to my husband. Wherever my husband is, he will be peaceful today."

On May 3, in a ritual-filled solemn ceremony, she submerged her husband's ashes in Sangam in Prayagraj with Vedic recitations. Shubham was a Kanpur native who got married to Ashanya on February 12. He was on vacation in Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam along with his wife and sister-in-law when terrorists opened fire on tourists and shot him in the head.

In the wee hours of May 7, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) released a statement announcing India's targeted operation against terror infrastructure. "A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'OPERATION SINDOOR', targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Nine (9) locations have been targeted in total," the statement said.

The operation was started in direct retaliation for the savage Pahalgam massacre, in which 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali visitor were killed. The official statement highlighted, "We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable."
